    Second North Regional Kuoshu Tournament

    Here we go again!

Sorry for the delay, but as promised here's the official info:

The Second Kuoshu North Regional Tournament will be held Saturday, May 12th 2007 in Madison, Wisconsin.

This will be an all-Chinese Martial Arts tournament organized by the USKSF North Region Director - Nelson Ferreira, the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association and sanctioned by the United States Kuoshu Federation (U.S.K.S.F.).

The U.S.K.S.F. is dedicated to the promotion of Chinese Kuoshu (Kung Fu), Friendship, Unity, Physical Fitness, Harmony, Ethics, Moral Character and Peace around the world. The U.S.K.S.F. also hosts the annual National and International Chinese Kuoshu Championships in Hunt Valley, MD.

After the success of the first event we are happy to announce that this is an annual event. The Second North Regional Chinese Kuoshu tournament shows the commitment of the U.S.K.S.F. in continuing the promotion of Kuoshu in the north region area.

The tournament will have several divisions expansions from last year for forms and fighting competitions, including the Lei Tai event. All events will adhere to the U.S.K.S.F. format for judging criteria and all judges will undergo training to be qualified judges and/or referees for this event.

We hope all of you will come out and support this event as competitors, judges, referees, volunteers and /or spectators. We welcome all Chinese style martial artists and Chinese martial arts schools regardless of style or affiliation. This is an opportunity to get to know everyone else and let everyone else get to know you. We hope our format can accommodate just about everybody.

We will update the website www.usckfnorth.org with more information about the divisions and how to register in the coming weeks. If you would like to request a tournament information packet for yourself or your school, please contact us at:

A BIG thank you for all of the forum members who participated last year and we hope to see those who couldn't make it last year and some new faces as well this May!

What are the rules to enter, and to fight?
Those that are the most sucessful are also the biggest failures. The difference between them and the rest of the failures is they keep getting up over and over again, until they finally succeed.

    For the Women:

    Hey RD,

The fighting rules are posted on the site www.usckfnoth.org

We will have Lei Tai and Light Contact divisions.

On the site you can find video of some of the fights from the First North Regional Tournament

For the Tai Chi Chuan folks we are working on a push hands division so stay tuned.

    Forgot to mention...

Any school that has 10 or more competitors pre-registered, we will extend one free night stay at the hotel to the Shifu/Coach.

Hope you all can make it!

Tix are not too bad out there, I have a girl that wants to come fight as well, either lei tai or continuous sparring, should I get her to train up for it, or is it likely that there wont be many girls like most tourneys I have gone to? Either way I am pretty sure I can hit it this year

    Great to hear GA!

Last year we had about 10 women fighting Lei Tai, 7 of which were on the US Kuoshu Team for the 2006 World Tournament in Singapore... there may not have been be many but they were quality. Can't gurantee they'll all be back this year but it's looking positive.

    Hey Siu Hung!

Good to see ya. Things are looking good so far, we're planning the Brazilian BBQ for Sunday (so the out of state folks can go out Sat. night for some fun in the town), are you guys able to stick around or come back the day after the event?

Thanks again for all your support and help last year.

    Sincerely,

    Nelson

Only a few more weeks 'til the tournament.

    Here's some updates:

On Saturday April 28th Shifu Marty Goldberg will conduct a seminar on Chi Sao for beginners and referees. Those interested in competing in the Chi Sao event (that have no Chi Sao training), or just would like to learn the skill, should attend this seminar so they can compete in the beginner division of the tournament. Any teacher that would like to participate as a referee in the Chi Sao event must attend this training to be qualified as an official for the event.

Saturday May 5th is the Taolu Referee training from 10am to 5pm. Those who wish to be referees or judges at the USKSF North Regional (that do not hold USKSF or TWKSF certification) event must attend this seminar in order to participate as an official.

Sunday May 13th Shifu Steve Kleppe will teach a seminar on Shaolin Tiger from 8:00am to 10:00am - cost $30.00

Sunday May 13th from 11:00am-??? Brazilian BBQ for all the competitors and officials that came in from out of town (free meat, beverages and sweets). This is our way of saying THANK YOU for again supporting this event. More details on this event will be available when you arrive in Madison.

Thanks for all that already pre-registered and for those who haven't TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
