3rd USKSF North Region Kuoshu Tournament
All-Chinese Martial Arts tournament held in Madison, WI and organized by the USKSF North Region Director - Nelson Ferreira, the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association and sanctioned by the United States Kuoshu Federation (U.S.K.S.F.).
The tournament is designed with youth, teens, adults and seniors divisions as well as beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions for forms and fighting competitions. It will also include the Lei Tai (full contact), chi sao (sticking hands), push hands and weapon sparring events. We have expansions on the Internal divisions as well. All events will adhere to the U.S.K.S.F. format for judging criteria and all judges will undergo training to be qualified judges and/or referees for this event.
We welcome all Chinese style martial artists and Chinese martial arts schools regardless of style or affiliation.
The USKSF North Region website will continue to be updated with all the latest information. If you would like to request a tournament information packet for yourself or your school, please contact us ASAP.

10th Annual International Chinese Martial Arts Championship
The International Chinese Martial Arts Championship is the largest Chinese martial arts tournament in North America, organized by Master Nick Scrima of Dunedin, FL. Master Scrima began the tournament in 1998, and since then it has grown rapidly into a full-scale international competition, with well over a thousand competitors of all ages and skill levels.
Master Scrima had successful beginnings as a tournament promoter while still in Ohio. He was one of the first masters to promote an all-Chinese martial arts tournament in the United States, and the first in Ohio, with the Great Lakes Kung Fu Championship. After moving to Florida and traveling around the country with his competition team, Master Scrima decided to organize the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship. The tournament has grown steadily over the years into the largest Chinese martial arts tournament in North America, attracting record numbers of students and masters alike. The "who's who" of Chinese martial arts have all been present at the tournament at some point in time, and the 9th Annual Championship will be featured in an issue of Inside Kung Fu. Due to its continued growth, the tournament has become an invitational event, so as to maintain the high standards for which it is renown.
The Championship features a wide array of Chinese martial arts styles, with all types of forms competition and fighting. There are divisions for Northern and Southern external styles, Tai Chi, other internal styles such as Xing Yi and ba Gua, and far more. Over the years, we have had point sparring, continuous fighting, push hands, full-contact fighting, and submission grappling. Competitors are all ages and skill levels - beginner and expert, young and old. Those who excel highest in their art and skill level earn the title of Grand Champion.

Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet is pleased to present Long River High Sky, its critically acclaimed collaboration with the Shaolin monks of China, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, May 28-June 1, 2008. Back by popular demand, Long River High Sky premiered to sold-out audiences in the spring of 2007. In addition to the seven performances slated for LINES Ballet’s Spring Season, this season will also feature a number of special events, including a pre-curtain discussion with the Shaolin monks on May 29 and a post-performance conversation with Alonzo King, LINES Ballet’s Artistic Director and Choreographer, and John Killacky, Program Officer for Arts and Culture at the San Francisco Foundation, on May 30.
The Shaolin monks practice a form of martial arts developed in the 6th century CE, when an Indian monk named Bodhidharma came to their temple on Songshan Mountain, in Henan Province. Blending the indigenous Chinese form of self-defense (called wushu) with a series of movements based on yoga, Bodhidharma taught the Shaolin monks to breathe strength into their bodies; they learned to soar into leaps as if they were cranes spreading their wings, and to land as silently as tigers prowling in the mountains. The group of Shaolin monks performing with LINES Ballet has the blessing of the original Shaolin temple to practice this traditional art form outside of China.
Alonzo King’s visionary choreography is renowned for its ability to connect audiences to a profound sense of shared humanity—of vulnerability and tenderness, but also of furious abandon and exhilarating freedom—and for its unique capacity to imbue classical ballet with new expressive potential. The project between Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet and the Shaolin monks, like Bodhidharma’s integration of yoga and wushu, represents both a blending of very different cultural traditions—Western classical ballet and Chinese martial arts—and, at the same time, a recognition that these arts of movement are convergent and intertwined.

The vision of LINES Ballet goes beyond the internationally-acclaimed dance company - LINES Ballet also encompasses a school and the San Francisco Dance Center. Home to Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, the San Francisco Dance Center has been offering a broad range of inspiring classes to dancers since 1989; six years ago, the LINES Ballet School was established in order to develop the potential of young dancers. In 2006, LINES Ballet and the Dominican University of California jointly launched the West Coast’s first joint BFA program in dance.
