    Question Stupid question

Sorry to ask this, but other than martial arts what are Shaolin monks involved in? I know probably a lot of meditation ect. , but do they do any charity work, help the sick and dying, or anything like that. We all see their MA videos, but do any of them write books on Buddhism, or give lectures or anything like that? If so please let me know because I would like to check it out! Well, thank you!!!
    Bless you

    Shaolin arts

Shaolin Temple is involved with all sorts of other projects - poetry, calligraphy, charitable aid. They even cultivate tea - a grand Chan tradition. I'll be bringing out more on this very soon in the mag. There is actually a few book series on Shaolin Chan put out by the temple. It's all in Chinese though.

Here's a question for you - what are the three treasures of Shaolin? Obviously Kung Fu and Chan are two. Does anyone know the third?

    Nice try...

Qigong is classified under Kung Fu, Kung Lek, at least in this particular case. That's a good answer - in fact I just received an article that made the same point. But in fact, the third treasure is a completely different field.

    Any other guesses?

hmmmn, this is like an rpg now

let's see...the scrolls of power and the eye of newt aren't part of the treasures...

so, qigong falls under Kungfu eh?, fair enough...

Well is it either the dit dar practice there or the monastery itself? Or c. none of the above.

    a little help here!

    cheers

    medicine

jd and kl got it, more or less.

The three treasures of Shaolin are Chan, Kung Fu and medicine. I have some interesting research on one of the leading Shaolin medicine monks that I'll write up for early next year. It's very interesting stuff.

I thought the Shaolin-monks was a bunch of fake actors trained in contemp. wushu, judging from what I've seen on tv documentaries, internet, etc.

    I suppose they still are?
