BSL Lyrics: Shaolin #5 (Martial Art)

We actually changed this one from the original Chinese. There was an introductory move, if memory serves it was 'wind through the willows', which is usually that opening side step move that we have in 6 & 8. It's not in our 5 so we dropped it formt he lyrics, but I saw some footage from KYC's school in Canton and they still have it.
It's also worthy of note that I've seen footage of a wushu version of 5, just a short clip from a segment in the middle during a big tournament in PRC. Unfortunately there was no way to trace the performer, but it was pretty cool.

    Differences and same in NSL#5

    Gene,

Some translation differences, some alternate lyrics and some differences:

#1 instead of Old Crow, we have Raven.
After this move I have a techniques called Seven Star Fist (which is the pair of fists face each other at waist high as in the beginning of NSL # 4, 6 and 8.)

Just before your #5 move, we have a technique called, Crouch and Grab Leg (strike with Single Hook).

In #8, Left Heel Kick is called Green Dragon Whips its Tail like the similar move in NSL #3.

#11 added words…with three consecutive steps.

#12 instead of… reverse bow and arrow, fishing pole technique, we have Grab Leg with Fishing Hook. The first part of this lyric is the same.

#13 we use the alternate name, Phoenix Turns Around like a Tornado.

#21 we use the alternate name, Green Dragon Whips its Tail.

#22 and #23 LTH are not in his set but we do them.

#24 first and last part are the same except the middle…reverse bow and arrow. We have lock leg (with reverse horse).

#26 Last part we translated as hook shave kick to break leg.

#27 same lyric but also an alternate name, Shake leg, Close Little Door.

#32 we use an alternate lyric, White Horse Offers its Hoof which is also in NSL #9.

#35 is not in LTH set but we have it. His disciples uses the techniques called Lion Opens its Big Jaws.

#36 is not in LTH and we do not do this either.

#38 is not in LTH instead he has Lion Opens its Big Jaws.

#40 we use the alternate name, Green Dragon Whips its Tail.

#43 what you have as Facing Fist, we call it Seven Star Fist.

Interesting that NSL #5 has an opening like 4, 6 and 8. From what I recall, when NSL moved from China to HK, some of the NSL sets were modified in directions-wise in order to fit the room where the lessons were taught.. Which sets were involved, I do not know because all of the sets end in the same place where they start which means if YSW did this he did an excellent job.

So did this NSL #5 in China end up in the same place where it began?

    Crossed Kick verse Cannon Kick

All kicks such as in #4 and #34 where the kicking leg is complemented with the opposite arm extend, are Typically called Crossed kick. But in really they are two different kicks and to distinguish the difference between the two kicks #4 and #34, #4 is normally called Crossed kick while the alternate lyric for #34 which uses the heel thrusting horizontal kick is called Cannon Kick. The Cannon Kick is the more the typical kick found throughout NSL sets such as in #2, 6, 7, 8, etc.

Unfortunately, it was only a snippet of the demo. The beginning and the end were not available.
