Tanglang Jian

I do not remember ever seeing a thread dedicated to the practice of the tanglang jian. So, I thought that I would start one.

Currently, I am teaching the basic and intermediate techniques of this weapon to my students. Here is the first flower that I have been working on with them. It is called the Wind & Fire Wheel. It consists of five separate techniques, three cuts and two parries, that flow into one combination.

The flower consists of:
1. An upper gate clockwise parry to the right side of the body,
2. A rising cut to the wrist of the enemy with the front of the blade,
3. An upper gate counterclockwise parry to the left side of the body,
4. A rising cut to the wrist of the enemy with the back of the blade,
5. A dotting thrust to the body or filing cut to the wrist of the enemy.

Here is a short clip of Master Zhang Wan Fu demonstrating the technique:

45 years of training and still not there. But every once in a while I get it right!

Recovering Forms Junkie! Even my twelve step program has four roads!

Yes, I fight in silk pajamas. And I have probably broken more opponent's ribs in my silk pajamas than many others rolling around in their knickers and mittens!
