DMX in MMA

In my dream MMA world, DMX would face off against Hershel.

DMX To Try Mixed Martial Arts Fighting In December
Rapper will go up against a member of his management team for Alabama Pride event.

By Jayson Rodriguez

Throughout his career, DMX has battled personal demons, rival rappers and label politics. His next fight, though, won't be anything like his previous challenges. And it's unclear whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

The often-troubled rapper is scheduled to participate in an unregulated mixed martial arts fight on December 12 in Alabama's Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex as part of the "Alabama Pride" event. X will actually be pitted against a member of his new management team, according to Hot 97 news guru Miss Info. The rapper's opponent, Eric Martinez, is an Arizona entrepreneur and a onetime MMA competitor with a single win under his belt. DMX has never appeared in a match of this kind before.

The puzzling move is the latest misstep in the rapper's once storied career that saw him become the second rapper to release two #1 albums in the same year. He was released from prison in May after spending the majority of 2008 in and out of court in Arizona and Florida on a number of charges, including fraud, drug possession and animal cruelty. He's since returned to work, appearing on the remix of former Ruff Ryders labelmate Jadakiss' "Who's Real."

Last week in New York, appearing at VH1's "Hip Hop Honors,", X said he intends to release two albums simultaneously soon. Back in January 2008, he told MTV News about his plans to release a traditional hip-hop album along with a gospel LP.

"I'm hungry, I'm grounded," X told MTV News on the red carpet. "I've always been grounded. But I'm hungrier. There's so much bullsh-- out there. I'm not gonna get into the names. You know who you are. There's so much bullsh-- out there. The streets won't let me forget that they need me and I need them."
Ok, actually in my dream world, I'd face off with Gina, but that's a dirty dream.

Sources: DMX Pulls Out Of Boxing Match

DMX’s career as a boxer has ended before it even began, as the rapper has pulled out of an upcoming boxing match, sources have told AllHipHop.com.

DMX was scheduled to square off against New Mexico based fighter Eric Martinez on December 12 in Alabama, during an event sponsored by Thunder Promotions.

One source said DMX pulled out of the fight because his safety could not be guaranteed, while another claimed that the rapper backed out because Thunder Promotions refused his request to "fix" the fight.

Sources stated that Thunder Promotions may pursue legal action against DMX.

In the meantime, a variety of popular rappers have been contacted to stand up to Eric Martinez during the fight.

A replacement for DMX will be announced as early as next week.

In late October, DMX called into Washington’s 106.7 to talk about the bout.

He stated that he had no plans to train for the fight and appeared to take the challenge against Martinez lightly.

"I’m a just walk in as is. It wouldn’t be fair if I trained,” DMX said and later said: "I aint trying to have my face all messed up."

Coolio To Replace DMX In MMA Fight
» by DANIELLE CANADA November 9, 2009, 12:23pm

DMX has finally come to grips with reality and officially pulled out of a scheduled mixed marital arts battle with fighter Eric Martinez.

After learning that the fight would not be rigged in his favor, X made the wise decision to not participate in the ‘would be' pummeling.

In a final attempt to salvage their client's dream, X's manager sent out an addendum to the event promoters asking them to agree to a fake bout saying:

“Event Promoter and Management agree that [DMX] is scheduled to win Boxing Challenge. All parties agree this event has been scheduled to occur only in fun and that the artist involved is not a professional boxer.”

The event promoters did not agree to the addendum however and have recruited a new victim to take his place.

The heat is officially off X as Coolio's stepping in to takeover. That's right, Coolio.

Coolio will step in the ring to see how he fares against Martinez on December 12 in Jefferson, Alabama.

His match will not be fixed so be sure to prepare for the worst.

SMH. I hope his family has life insurance.
