Thing is, Dale's trying to judge Beijing SC by Pao Ding standards. Two different variations of the art.
It's like watching a folk wrestling match and saying, "See, they shoot doubles." like it's the same thing as Greco-Roman.
I have no idea what WD is talking about.--Royal Dragon
Neither a Greco-Roman or folkstyle wrester will claim that he can purposely land his opponent on his head without the opponent being able to break the fall.
Throwing looks like throwing. Folkstyle upper body throws are going to look like Greco-Roman throws.
There is no special techniques that other styles don't have that will magically land the opponents on their heads.
I think Shaui Chiao concentrates more on kicking out that supporting leg as high as possible than Judo does. Judo seems to be more about using the waist.
Dale, any Judo black belt knows the same stuff. The info is out there across various styles.

Nice clips, thanks. Are there any clips available of shuaijiao tournaments in China?
Actually...
I was watching some judo vids from the 70's in japan and the judoka were falling the same as shuai chiao falls... not slapping the mat, but covering the head.
If a good judoka and a good shuai chiao practitioner sparred both wearing normal clothes, it would be extremely difficult to tell the difference.
I wouldnt mind getting into some judo up here, but I havent found a club that is down for a weekly non jacket wrestle night.

you likely won't find one. there is no non gi judo competition, so there is no point in them training it.
a lot of it looks similar from a sweeping and reaping perspective, but hand throws are different in nature, as are some of the pickups I have seen. there are only so many ways to throw tho,so...

I will punch, kick, choke, throw or joint manipulate any nationality equally without predjudice.

You know as well as I do that there is. Just not in terms of judo comps.

question for you SC/Judo guys
im not that familiar with either art, other than what i have seen on video.
there is no SC school near me. but there this Judo school
http://www.obukan.org/ : look good??
now i have a question i hope someone would answer for me.
i hear alot about the gi training and what not in judo.
im assuming this means there are many techniques which require you to manipulate your opponent using his gi.
is this the same in SC?
basically im wondering which would be more realistic as a lot of people dont walk around wearing gi's, and in the warm weather times time, not much clothes at all. which is half the year, unless your tropical then its the whole year.
which art focuses more on using your opponents body for manipulation and less stress on using your opponents clothing.
if one does so more than the other anyway.
thanks for any responses to this question

SC also train none jacket situation and it's called Ma Ni Chu - trying to catch a slipper fish. Old SC saying said, "Grab his clothes if he has, grab his skin if he hasn't".
Both jacket and none jacket matches has their plus and minus. The plus for jacket match is "You force your opponent to fight because it's hard to break away from a jacket hold". The minus for jacket match is "You build dependency on jacket hold". The plus for none jacket match is "It's hard to resist and hang on without jacket hold so the match will go quicker". The minus for none jacket match is "Your opponent can run around and avoid fighting and there is little that you can do about".
In the modern SC time, kicking and punching had been integrated into it. People with boxing gloves on will be hard to grab so most of the hand grabbing has been changed into arm wrapping instead. With arm wrapping, the jacket dependency had been removed.
You can treat jacket match as winter time ski slop combat art, and none jacket match as summer time sand beach combat art. Both have its value.
