    Question for the JMA guys.

Got a question for the JMA guys.

How many of you train Hojo Undo on a regular basis.

And which of the following tools to you use:
    - Tetsu-geta
    - Nigiri-game
    - Kongoken
    - Ishisashi
    - Tan
    - Tou
    - Jari-bako
    - Makiage-kigu
    - Sashi-ishi
    - Tetsuarei
    - Makiwara

Just curious, to see how many train in these methods.

Some makiwara and jari bako but mostly the traditional practices of weight training, heavy bag and working with a partner. I use regular dumbells for tetsuarei and I should make a makiage kigu.

The crap that many schools do is not the crap I was taught or train in or teach.

Dam nit... it made sense when it was running through my head.

Aren't those mainly okinawan? I believe they are, which is why you see similar apparatus in CMA. However, when I was in JMA, we did do some makiwara work. When I was in CMA, I did most of those.

The kongoken is either a Judo device or a Hawiian device.

Yeah, most of those tools are Okinawan (OMA roxors, FYI).

We used to use the makiwara, but now we just use focus pads, shields, and of course, the heavy bags.

Otherwise, we're encouraged to weight train.

I guess I really do need to read up on my terminology . . .

judo, however, I've never used one. The only judo apparatus we use on a regular basis is surgical tubing, which I use for ushi komis.
