Jujutsu comes from Shuai Chiao, so Shuai Chiao would obviously look like Judo. But you say Judo sucks, but your beloved Gracies do Judo.

Jujutsu does not come from China. It has its roots in Sumai (the ancient form of Sumo) Until reciently Sumo still had shuto and before that closed fists. check out the article at

Sumo came from Shuai Chiao. Chinese and Japanese historians back this up. If you look at pictures of Sumo, it looks like Shuai Chiao with fat guys.

It was a cultural implant from China that developed its own unique Japanese characteristics.

Like Shuai Chiao it has always been a 'sport' designed to help train warriors.

Modern Shuai Chiao 'Chang Style' reincorporated the folk wrestling with fisticuffs, which for some bizarre reason had been lost or misunderstood in many CMA schools. Traditionally Shuai Chiao was a Klingon like sport that was one of several skills a warrior needed to learn.

Most Shuai Chiao or Boke schools are strictly sporting. But it is a very rough sport.

When you read the apocryphal stories of 'internal stylists' beating 'wrestlers', it was because those Shuai Chiao guys were the guys to beat to make your rep.

Shuai Chiao can look very similar to Judo. Robert Smith complained that Judo was superior in throwing - but I don't think Chang was honest with him. He wanted him to go away because he was friends with Zheng Ming Qing - who Chang did not respect.

Ralek - Shuai Chiao has some excellent 'wrestling' techniques. I suggest you take a look. I have a couple BJJ guys training with me to improve thier stand up grappling. My new Sambo training partner ties me into knots on the ground, but tells me he's never been thrown so heiniously before from the stand up. It all has value - as long as we focus on knowing our goal and identifying the best training methods - regardless of style.

I am a big beleiver in luck. The more I work, the more luck I have.

I dont know if modern days bjj's do stand up locks from jjj, but Helio and probably his sons too sure do.
