    Great Baji training and applications

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47dn0...eature=related

I used to take issue with parts of his form performances but his applications are on the money!

First clip I've seen to really go into the tree training we do.

And that tree never had a chance against the master...

Seriously, I really enjoyed that video clip and many thanks for posting.

Bajiquan has always fascinated me and I wish that I will be fortunate enough to train this style some time in the future. Meanwhile, I wish you good training.

I can honestly say I've never seen anything like that before.

    Interesting video!

Do you have any more vids showing training/applications?

What I had seen of his some years back was this one:

    http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTAwODk2OTI0.html

I thought it was pretty cool but not as interesting as the one's on youtube because it just looks like pretty standard Sanda stuff to me. "Just" is not meant to be dismissive of the training. It's good training, just particularly interesting to me. It's the same thing you can find at pretty much any decent Chinese Sanda camp.

I also was familiar with this Baji clip of his:

    http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTAwOTAzMjA0.html

It shows really good fa-jin but I have problems with his stances and could never relate anything in that form to the fight stuff he's doing in the other clip. I consider that thing he does where his rear shoulder is always held much higher and he kind of leans forward into things to be a big no-no, especially holding the rear elbow high. If it was just the shoulder I could justify it better. It would still be bad Baji but fighting wise there's plenty of reason for it. His stances are just too long, wide and deep for practical fighting.

So, in summary, while I could see he could both fight and do impressive forms, I didn't see any connection between the two. In these newer clips, the link between the traditional Baji training and the free-fighting skill is made clear.

Only in China can someone be outside throwing themselves up against a tree and not have other people stopping and staring like it's a weird thing to do

No, I said I've heard tai chi people say that it takes 10 years to become able to fight with tai chi (I guess by that time you've cultivated your qi enough to withstand any attacks and kill people with a single strike of your qi-infused fist or palm).

This clips are great. Tiger on Duty from the old MSN Bak Mei forums used to talk about Baji, but the only clips I found back then were of stuff I could never imagine being used in actual combat. These clips are great! Know I can appreciate Baji! I don't know if they could could compete with the Chen Tai Chi guys, but at least now I can understand it being a real combat art. Hats off to the guy in the clip.
I was on the metro earlier, deep in meditation, when a ruffian came over and started causing trouble. He started pushing me with his bag, steadily increasing the force until it became very annoying. When I turned to him, before I could ask him to stop, he immediately started hurling abuse like a scoundrel. I performed a basic chin na - carotid artery strike combination and sent him to sleep. The rest of my journey was very peaceful, and passersby hailed me as a hero - Warrior Man

Sifu Tony Yang teaches it here in the area. Never did like how the forms moved, so I never expressed an interest.
