Martial arts ace Donnie Yen will face off against mainland China's Lost In Thailand star Wang Baoqing in Last Of The Best (一個人的武林), it was announced today.

The contemporary action thriller set in Hong Kong and Foshan, China, is to be directed by Teddy Chen on a budget of $25 million.

Production gets underway later this month with delivery set for Summer 2014.

The screenplay is by Chen, Lau Ho-leung and Mak Tin-shu.It sees Yen star as Xia, a former martial arts instructor of the Police Academy who is imprisoned after he accidentally kills a man during a private altercation. When a vicious killer Feng (Wang) starts targeting martial arts masters in Hong Kong, Xia offers his help to the police in return for his freedom.

"Last of the Best is able to put the traditional martial arts philosophy into a contemporary setting which, to many, is what Donnie represents," said Albert Lee, CEO of Emperor Motion Pictures in a statement.

    an update

Donnie Yen films "Last Of The Best"
By Heidi Hsia | From Cinema Online Exclusively for Yahoo! Newsroom – Tue, Jun 25, 2013

24 Jun – From "The Monkey King" to "The Iceman Cometh 3D", the busy Donnie Yen is now moving to the next film in his list, "Last Of The Best".

Oriental Daily reported that the actor was recently seen in Gough Street, situated in Central, Hong Kong, filming for the Teddy Chan-produced movie. Donnie's last collaboration with Teddy was in "Bodyguards and Assassins" in 2009.

Despite the hot 31 degree summer weather, Donnie and the rest of the cast, including actress Charlie Yeung and John Chiang, had to wear thick sweaters, seeing that the story is set during winter.

In "Last Of The Best", Donnie plays a former police martial arts instructor who was imprisoned after accidentally killing a man. However, he offered to help the police to find a serial killer who is targeting martial arts masters in exchange for his freedom.

Co-starring Charlie Yeung, Bai Bing, Wang Baoqiang and John Chiang, Donnie also serves as the movie's choreographer.

Although a release date has yet to be determined, Donnie disclosed that he hopes that the movie, which has only begun filming in May, will premiere in 2014.
31C = 88F which is just about what is predicted for Fremont this weekend.
