Xue learning martial arts in prison
By New Zealand correspondent Kerri Ritchie
    Posted Mon Jul 13, 2009 9:39am AEST

The man who dumped his three-year-old daughter at Melbourne's Southern Cross train station after murdering his wife in New Zealand says he will write a book so people know the truth about what happened.

Nai Yin Xue continues to protest his innocence after being jailed for killing his wife.

After dumping her body in the boot of his work car he flew to Melbourne, where he abandoned his daughter.

In an interview in Mandarin to the New Zealand Chinese Herald, Xue says he has been developing new martial arts moves in prison.

He also believes it is good that he is sharing a cell with a person who is not Chinese, because it forces him to speak English.

Xue is quoted as saying the day will come when people realise he is innocent.

In the interview he admits he is not a good writer, but says he will publish a book anyway so people know the truth.

Xue is passing the time in prison playing pool and cards, and says that once he accepted the fact that he is in prison, it became just like another nine-to-five job.

His escapes are something of legend, then he eventually turns himself in. All that talent and the brothers waste it on robberies. If I tried to cross of river with my hands tied behind my back they would find me a week later floating out to sea.

    More on Monson

Monson starts on post 273 and many follow. Just do your own search on this.
Mixed martial arts champ has day in court
    By Jeremy Pawloski; The Olympian
    Published: 07/29/09 8:57 am
    OLYMPIA --

A judge ordered mixed martial arts champion Jeff Monson to surrender his passport Tuesday after Monson pleaded not guilty to malicious-mischief charges for allegedly spray-painting an anarchist symbol on the Capitol last year.

The order casts doubt on whether Monson will be able to appear in two scheduled fights overseas.

Monson, 38, has a fight scheduled in February in St. Petersburg, Russia, and in March in Tokyo. After Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Joe Wheeler asked that Monson surrender his passport during Monson's arraignment Tuesday, Monson leaned over and whispered to Wheeler, "Are you going to support my family now?"

Monson's attorney, Legrand Jones, said he will file a motion to release Monson's passport in an effort to enable him to appear for his two scheduled overseas fights. Monson was not taken into custody during Tuesday's hearing, and he is allowed to remain free after posting $20,000 bail.

Wheeler argued in court that Monson is a flight risk, and because of Monson's anarchist beliefs, he "would have very little regard for following the orders of the court."

Monson disputed that during an interview after his arraignment.

"I've been here since I was a kid, 9 years old," Monson said of his roots in the Olympia area.

He added that he and his wife of 16 years have two children in the Tumwater School District.

"Everything I have in my life is here in Olympia," he said. "I just want to be able to make a living for my family."

Monson is charged with one count of first-degree malicious mischief, a class B felony carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. He was charged this month, partly based on photographs published in a profile of Monson in ESPN The Magazine in December, court papers state. One photo shows Monson spray-painting an anarchist symbol on the Capitol.

The Washington State Patrol has been looking for the people who spray-painted graffiti on columns on the north side of the Capitol since it was left there Nov. 26. The graffiti included anarchy symbols, a peace symbol and phrases such as "no war" and "no poverty."

Thurston County Superior Court Judge Anne Hirsch said she considered the nature of Monson's malicious-mischief charge, as well as his pending criminal charge in North Carolina, in deciding to ask that he surrender his passport.

Monson was arrested Jan. 17 in Davie County, N.C., on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and property damage during an argument with a woman. The woman, who was uninjured, also was arrested for allegedly taking Monson's cell phone.

Monson returned to the Olympia area last week after posting bail in North Carolina.

Hirsch said in court that Jones can schedule a motion hearing on the issue of Monson being allowed to leave the country for his overseas fights.

During Tuesday's interview, Monson would not address his malicious-mischief charge. In a prior interview, he took responsibility for leaving the graffiti.

Monson said Tuesday that he does not want to go to jail.

Jones said he doubts a claim in court records that it cost the state $19,000 to clean the graffiti from the Capitol's columns. Monson added that if Monson is convicted, his standard range for the first-degree malicious mischief charge would be between zero and 90 days in jail, and Monson likely would not be sentenced to any jail time.

Monson has no criminal history, Jones said, and has a master's degree that allowed him to work as a mental-health counselor before he pursued his career in mixed martial arts. Monson, whose fighting nickname is The Snowman, is a Timberline High School graduate who was on the wrestling team at Oregon State University.

In December 2004, he won the Cage Warriors Fighting Champion heavyweight title in Sheffield, England, by defeating Tengiz Tedoradze with a submission hold in the first round. On Dec. 13, 2008, he won a match against Ricco Rodriguez in the Mixed Fight Alliance: There Will Be Blood event in Miami. He is listed as the world grappling champion.

Martial arts instructor charged with sexually assaulting student
    By Vince Tuss, Star Tribune
    Last update: August 12, 2009 - 12:10 AM

A Minneapolis martial arts instructor was charged Monday with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.

Giovanni Miguel Eankamash, 35, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He was being held in the Hennepin County jail in lieu of $300,000 bail, according to jail records. His next court appearance is Sept. 1.

Minneapolis police are "investigating the possibility that there are other victims," Sgt. Bill Palmer said, but the girl is the only one authorities know of so far.

    According to the criminal complaint:

The girl's mother called police in July after her daughter told her about the assaults, which she said happened during lessons from January to June. The mother said that Eankamash was a family friend.

The girl later told authorities that he assaulted her at least twice and said not to tell anyone, the complaint said.

Eankamash told police that he touched the girl sexually during lessons, the complaint said.

    Slaying suspect created Net persona
Colin Koehler describes himself as a graphic artist proficient in martial arts
By Jessica Bloch and Eric Russell

BANGOR, Maine — In an online profile, murder suspect Colin Koehler describes himself as an at-home graphic artist proficient in martial arts who had big dreams of working for a well-known comics publishing company. People who had encountered Koehler in the area of his downtown Bangor apartment recently said they didn’t know much about the man or his background.

Koehler was arrested Tuesday evening after police and tactical team members raided his apartment. He has been charged with the murder of 19-year-old Holly Boutilier of Old Town, whose body was found over the weekend near a shack by the city’s waterfront. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance this morning.

According to his profile on the social networking site MySpace, Koehler wrote that he was a disabled at-home graphic artist who moved to Maine to be near his parents “for recovery and free health care.”

He also described an affinity for martial arts and even posted a 31-second video of himself wielding a samurai-style sword. Bangor police have yet to confirm how Boutilier was killed or if any weapons were involved.

Koehler had only recently moved into the downtown apartment where police tactical members broke windows and threw in tear gas canisters Tuesday afternoon, and few neighbors at 92 Columbia St. knew anything about him.

An employee of Bangor Window Shade and Drapery Co., which is in the same building, said Koehler moved in only about a week ago, with a young woman and her young son.

“I didn’t think he looked 34,” the employee said of the accused killer. “He seemed sort of simple.” Attempts to reach the landlord of the apartment building on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

Andrew Clifford, who lives on the second floor of the same building, said he knew Koehler.

“He was just a dude,” Clifford said.

Any link between Koehler, the woman he moved in with and the murdered Boutilier is still not clear and police have not been forthcoming. A search warrant affidavit and an arrest affidavit for Koehler have been sealed, according to William Stokes of the Maine Attorney General’s Office. A background check on Koehler revealed no violent criminal history.

The broken windows to the now-empty apartment were boarded up Wednesday. A peek inside other windows revealed furniture, some unpacked boxes and children’s toys.

It’s unclear where Koehler was living before moving downtown. Bill Rae at Manna Ministries, a shelter and food pantry on lower Main Street, has said Koehler, the woman he lived with and Boutilier all had come in for services in recent weeks.

Online, though, Koehler wrote that he was engaged and listed himself as a “proud parent.” He set up his MySpace page, listed under the name Serialreality, to market graphic art such as posters, business cards, promotional fliers, advertisements and logo designs. He hadn’t sold any of his art except for local logos and promotional materials for the now-closed Club Fuzion on Franklin Street and for local hip-hop record label Flophouse Records.

His dream was to move to California and work for comics publisher Top Cow Productions. Koehler listed artist and Top Cow executive Mark Silvestri as a hero on his MySpace profile.

Also included on the online profile were dozens of photos of the woman he moved in with, including some taken on a riverfront walkway near the Penobscot River and the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge.

While Koehler’s prior residence has not been revealed, the woman he moved in with lived in subsidized housing off Finson Road before moving downtown with Koehler, according to the young woman’s MySpace page. A neighbor there said the woman was friendly and lived there with her son and the son’s father.

Asked about Koehler, the neighbor said he had been around the apartment in recent weeks. An employee of Seamus’s, a variety store near the apartment complex, said she remembered Koehler and described him as a shady character.

The young woman who lived with Koehler, who is not being named because she has not been implicated in the crime, was online and checking her MySpace page Wednesday afternoon. Attempts to reach her by e-mail were unsuccessful.

Koehler last logged in to his MySpace account on Aug. 6. His profile is filled with sketches and drawings of aliens, comic book heroes, mythical creatures and ninjas. The sword video he describes as “me doing shaolin katana style.” Shaolin is a type of martial art and a katana is a Japanese sword.

He wrote that he attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia from 1994 to 1996, graduating in 1996 with degrees in industrial art and design and special effects. After he finished school, Koehler wrote that he tried to get into movie production, “with no success,” and took a job in computer-aided design (CAD). Koehler “got bored with that” and joined a bricklayers union in New Jersey for four years.

He wrote that he has reactive arthritis and became temporarily disabled in July 2004. Reactive arthritis, also called Reiter syndrome, occurs most frequently in men ages 20-40.

“Then I couldn’t walk but I could still draw,” Koehler wrote, and he eventually moved to Maine. He was living in Brewer when he was convicted of marijuana possession in 2006, according to Bangor Daily News records. Subsequent convictions for operating a vehicle without a license had him living in Bangor.

He may have lived for a time with family members in Carmel. No one answered the phone there Wednesday.

Joseph DiLeone, a friend of Koehler from Connecticut, posted a message about him on his MySpace page that reads, “Wow, the world is getting crazy. A good friend of mine was arrested for murder last night. This is insane. I just wanna say good luck to my friend.”

In an e-mail sent to the Bangor Daily News on Wednesday afternoon, DiLeone added, “He’s a great guy and a good friend. I love Colin and I’m praying for him.”
