Just a reminder to the U.S. folks that Magnolia Home Entertainment released District B13 today -- so if you've been waiting for a legitimate region 1 copy, run off to Blockbuster or Best Buy or wherever you get your movies and check it out!
Rented it, Shaolinlueb was right, it was so so. Nice kick ass stunts going on but nothing that will really stick with me.

This film is landmark in the martial genre, right up there with Tony Jaa's last two, the next gen if you will - the parkour players with hip hop sensibilities. It'll stand as one of the more interesting martial arts flicks of the mid '10's....errrr, as in 2010's....hmm, that doesn't sound right at all...
The action is solidly-paced. Nice stunts. Nice fights. Balletic gun play. Very nice stunts actually, although I felt the could have been filmed less ballistically, less like some hip hop video; often its hard to see the action clearly. The parkour in Casino Royale was actually showcased much better - or at least to better dramatic heights. Besson tends to shoot tight and claustrophobic - Bond tend to be more panoramic - parkour needs to be shot on a panoramic level to show how far these guys are jumping in their stunts. Even Jackie knew that back in the day (but seems to have lost it in some more recent efforts). Still, where Bond is a sharpshooter, B13 is a shotgun blast. B13 literally jumps into high gear with the opening sequence, then spends the rest of the movie trying to sustain that energy. Arguably, it succeeds. The plot is simple and unobtrusive. The plot is Escape from NY, only it's a clean bomb instead of Donald Pleasance. And it's in French. Nothing like that gritty French street talk. Some cool cars, very Euro, but the car chases are kept to a minimum. The chase focus is on foot. The leads play their roles well. Some good villains. All in all, a very satisfactory flick. I recommends it, especially because you can sound very authoritative when people discuss the action in Casino Royale - bringing up a French martial arts film is an impressive film chat move - you can even link it to Youtube and sound very hip. I'm looking forward to the next parkour film with the same anticipation as the next Jaa film.

Yeah, it was a cool flick. Much better action and fighting than Casino Royale, IMHO.
It seems like the way they cut the budget in Casino Royale was spending more time in the casino and less time in action sequences. (Or maybe they spent it all blowing up cars and sinking buildings).
The scale of the Bond franchise is phenomenal. It's one of the most successful film franchises ever. I can't even think of another that's on the same level - that's lasted so long. So I don't think a comparison of DB13 and Casino Royale is fair. It's like apples and oranges. However, I do think it was very interesting to see parkour in both films. DB13 was landmark because it was the first parkour film. Sure, it's got it's gaping plot holes, like so many martial arts films, but I still found it entertaining. With a few exceptions, most MA flicks are still B grade film, and I'm ok with that.
Are there any other parkour films out there? Does Belle do any stunts in Femme Fatale?

There were a couple of other parkour films out, but I can't remember their names. One is about some guys that go to Thailand or someplace to try to start a Parkour gym. That one has some good action as well.
Of course something like B13 doesn't have the budget of a Bond film, so it's not going to have the cinematography or actors or special effects -- but for action and given the budget, B13 is way better, IMHO.
Godzilla. Of course. Have they made a new one lately? I've lost track.
There are several figures that have been in a lot of movie series - Zorro, Dracula, Wong Fei Hung, even but Godzilla and Bond have been the same franchise almost all the way through. That's notable, for sure.
lhs - I'd love to find out those titles, if you got 'em.
