Hi Sifu Ross,
I like to ask a question about the story which Chan Sifu attacked Jyu Sifu after Chan sifu had become a more experienced fighters fighting the Japanese.
Can you provide a rationale as to why Jyu Sifu was able to so easily dispatch Chan Sifu?
was there such a big hole in Chan sifu's fighting methodology that Jyu exploited?
also, since Jyu was living in the monastery and basically retired, wouldn't his skills deteroriate? Why was he able to beat Chan sifu even though Chan sifu had been fighting in combat putting him into life-and-death situation forcing him to breakthrough his limits?
how did Jyu maintain his skill level? by sparring against his students? since his students were probably at a lower skill level, wouldn't that not really push Jyu to his limits? Hence, what was Jyu doing to maintain his skills?
dazed and confused
Jyu? Is That Pronounced Jaiyoo?
Is The Above Spelling An Actual Chinese Family Name?
That Sounds Japanese To Me.

To the best of my knowledge, there are only two known times that Chan Tai-San attacked (fought for real) his teacher, Jyu Chuyhn.
Once when he was 19 and drunk. He attacked him with two knives. He got his arm broken that time.
Again when he had finished learning Mok Ga from Mok Jing-Kiu. He was approximatly 43 years old and hadn't learned Lama Pai yet. His meeting with Jyu Chuyhn was an attempt to get him to finally teach him Lama. When Jyu Chuyn refused, Chan said "well, it doesn't matter, with what I've been learning, I can beat you even without it." Guess what style Jyu Chuyhn used to which caused Chan Tai-San to crawl on the ground in an effort to find his missing teeth?
When I went to Toi San in '05 and '06 and met with Jyu Chuyhn's last surviving son, it helped us to learn a lot more about him and answered many questions.
This will give you some more info about him.
