    Most realistic fighting game?

What do you think is the most realistic fighting game? I know what I think, but I want to hear what you say!

A better question might be what game is the most fun -- I don't think any of them are realistic ... my favorite has always been Tekken although I loved Soul Calibur for the katas they did.

Now that I think about it, there was one game, not even sure what system it was for, as it has been quite a few years now. You played as a samurai and the match was pretty much over as soon as a blow was struck. Most of the strategy was in positioning your character and then getting the right combination in... I guess that was as realistic as you could get, though it was a pretty boring game after about 10 mins ...

The most realistic fighting game is "look out m----f----, here I come!"

My brother and I used to play this one all the time when we were kids.

As much as I love the Tekken series (with Soul Caliber being a close second), I'd have to say the most realistic fighting game ever is . . .

    Here is what I think!

    Mortal Kombat 5!

Now who has actually played this game? I know that the finishing moves are not real or the projectiles, but who has actually played the game and seen some of the fighting styles they use? I think this game hands down is the best game yet. But thats just me!

one of the most realistic fighting games i've played is "budokan" for the sega genesis. you would train in training halls and get feedback on your mastery of ki, speed, number of moves, etc. then you would go to the nippon budokan and fight people who had unique weapons you couldn't train in.

    you could train in:
kendo, karate, bo, and nunchuck (never know how to spell that)

your opponents could use those or:
naginata, tonfa, kusuri gama and i think some others. i'm pretty sure there's even a ninja in it which is ALWAYS cool as he would often "flip out and kill" you. plus, he was a mammal and wailed on his guitar.

the instruction book had a lot of interesting background info, and while you were training you could go to your sensei and he would dispense wisdom that i think included dao de jing and art of war sayings.

it was an Electronic Arts game and had a lot of moves considering you only use one button for blocking and attacking (the fight engine was basically based on your direction pad)

i still have it and play once in a while, but the control scheme is really hard

i never understood why EA hasn't reissued a next generation version of it.

You make a thread about the most realistic fighting game and then pull out Mortal Kombat?

    No

There are many good beat em ups's out there and most of the greatest have been mentioned above. Such as Soul Calibur, the Tekken series and the Virtua Fighter series. But with the exception of Virtua Fighter how 'realistic' is any of these, really?

Bushido Blade is a good example. But I'm telling you now, the greatest, most exciting game ever made is Shenmue and Shenmue 2. Period.
All right now, son, I want you to get a good night's rest. And remember, I could murder you while you sleep.
Hey son, I bought you a puppy today after work. But then I killed it and ate it! Hahah, I´m just kidding. I would never buy you a puppy.

"Three switched witches watch three Swatch watch switches. Which switched witch watch which Swatch watch switch?."

Have you played MK5 though? I am serious when I say the moves you can do are straight out of a text book.

    I'm not sure
I played some 3D MK game before and it was horrible. If it's a new one I probably havn't though. I admit I instantly asume it to be crap, but who knows maybe it's alrite.

There's certanly a need for more beat em ups anyway

I had an idea for a fighting game that I think could be a huge hit, only I have no programming or game-design expertise.

Instead of people, you have animals.

Brilliant in its simplicity, don't you think?

Bear vs. big cat vs. giant snake vs. elephant vs. bull vs. pack of wolves vs. swarm of bees vs. huge flightless bird vs huge wild boar vs gorilla vs horse etc.

You could even have 'shifted' versions of some of 'em, so the big cat could be a tiger or lion or leopard, the bull could also be a buffalo or moose, and so on.

Cant believe none of you mentioned dead or alive 2 or 3. Gotta love those games. Bushido blade was badass too...
