    =D

I still admire Wushu Chik's bluntness. Just out of curiosity Wushu Chik, would your oppinions change if you had kids?
WushuChik has boys, I think. I respect her opinion because she does have kids. But I'm betting that she teaches them to not pull out their ******s in public. I'm also betting the loudmouths spouting about freedom of expression don't have any kids.
I have 2 boys, 6 & 4. My opinions are like they are probably because of the way I was raised. My grandparents never witheld anything from me. I was allowed to watch whatever I wanted & all questions were answered, and not in a round about way. They wanted to be sure that I wasn't naive or I'd be utterly surprised or apauled by what I see or hear as I get older.

Case in point, my neighbor. Stunning redhead, small, petite, school teacher, very nice. She came over to tutor my 6 year old and there was a Surfing Magazine on the table opened to a page with a girl in a bikini. She started blushing, covered her mouth and closed the book, talking about how it leads to pornography etc.

My boys are VERY openminded and don't have any problems coming right out and asking a question, or expressing their opinions (wonder where they get that huh??).

AS A PARENT- I feel that it is my "job" to make sure my kids are ready for anything, and know the boundaries of life. They know where I stand in my points, and how I feel about certain areas of daily life. I do teach them the rights and wrongs, like MK said. My boys know that whipping it out in public is a BIG no no, just like many other things.

Josh, my 6 year old, saw Janets top get yanked off on the SBHT Show, and all he said was "Why'd he pull her top off, that was rude" & "That's gonna cost some bucks to get fixed."

Bodhi, my 4 year old, could have cared less. At his age, he's pretty oblivious to stuff like that! He's more worried about his coloring books and Xbox.

...sometimes you gotta stop and look at yourself in the mirror and wonder about the martial company you keep.
Sorry Gene, leave it to us to hijack, turn around, completely change the subject, then argue on a thread!! BUT- you know that's what you love about us the most!!!! That's why we have an off topic forum at Fu-Ragz. (See look at how much you've already taught me!!! But that what ELDER Kung Fu Bro's are for!! )

    i agree with wushu's entire post 100%

this is exactly how i raise my daughter simply because i'm not capable of doing it any other way.

some people find that i'm way too honest with her, about anything and everything, but i could give a shit less and i completely respect another parent's right to do it differantly.

Which is all fine and good...

...but there are definate boundaries. I'm as open with my child as I can be, but there are definately some things I shield her from at this point. You gotta remember, I live near SF, so when we talk about porn, perversion, etc., it can be very extreme, stuff that is too much for me as an adult.

Anyway, right now we're working on learning sword etiquette because I have a lot of sharps lying about and many of my kid's classmates are in this heavy sword phase. Good sowrd etiquette would have prevented this whole thread, because slapping a sword on the table is just rude. He got what he deserved. Of course, none of mine would break like that (well, maybe my light saber might...)
