Since you completely side stepped my challenge to find a single example of what you term "preparation for the real thing" (when you happily did so to prove your boxing semantics) you...
You want a fixed (do this) answer.. This is the problem.. It's a sign of the problem..
And you show it here.. You just said it's drills like these that prepare you for the real thing and yet I...
The reason what you describe may well be effective is because too many VT people train this kind of stuff to defend against X where X is whatever attack.. They train to block X and not only does it...
Very good Glenn you got me..
I shouldn't have implied that no one ever did it...
That was not the point...
This was:
So to recap.. MOST DON'T....
Like I said Phil I am not saying it can't, never was done, etc.. (if that was an UC) Is the exception the rule now?
You won't find many boxing coaches that would say an uppercut is an outside...
We were discussing hooks and uppercuts...
Hooks..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp4J45kF-mI
Are not normally used as a lead...
They are not really an outside entry tool and therefore...
No uppercuts were thrown from the outside.. Proper hooks are tight and also not thrown from the outside..
Curvy long round shots are not proper hooks in my book and most boxers will set up...
What are you talking about? What scrub? What hack? What is your point?
Very insightful.
Care to elaborate?
Are you saying that hooks and esp uppercuts are often outside leads?
Got clip? Let's see all those outside uppercuts in use!
Yes that's right forms are like the alphabet...
But this is backwards for the same reason why skilled authors don't study the alphabet or grammar "more deeply" to learn how to write better...
You realize that no boxer leads with a "round punch" or uppercut right?

Hooks and esp uppercuts are inside tools.
Let's see even one example of...
Like anything else it should be about function and functionality...
This like saying so and so approaches his ping pong training with playing in mind. Yes that's what you do if you want to be...
Because you want specific answers like "If he does A" then "You do D"...If he steps this way then you must step that way, if this zone is filled, then make a new line 20 degrees to the left, etc...
...
The posture compliments the leg... Well it depends on how she moves I guess...
In VT if we are in close we will be using our tools to break him down and strike him while we use our legs not...
Thanks Joy, I think it was clear... VT does what VT does, we play our game like any other method and in so doing attempt to take his game away..
Templar: I am going to be in Missouri in a month...
That may be your "understanding" but it doesn't reflect the majority of what is done in many many schools.. Got a clip?
A trend of mine 'dude'? It was hardly clear.. I assume you mean all...
Using leg kicks while covering passively with both hands/arms? On the inside?
Not a signature of VT IMO.
The MMA guys would say something like this: "Yes of course you do..."
VT does have a "solution" to these things and while the names have changed "MMA" etc, I don't think that these kinds of attacks were unknown, but they may well have been less common... The solution...
So hard core gor sao isn't your thing?
No, the majority don't fight, they theorize all day... The core of most fighting arts is fighting not drilling... Even when I did karate we carried...
And how many years or decades do you stick to the art alone, to training the basics, to training the advanced stuff? Do you ever finish, do you ever graduate? Do you ever leave the kwoon the nest...
The one that fits in with the moment.
I don't know if VT could "evolve" to do something completely outside its scope.. I think the real answer here is that there is too much speculation and not enough application... How do you use VT...
No, there must a specific reason and direction...
Personally I see the problem of not fighting, where fighting must be a prerequisite to any evolving.. Something must be in use to evolve,...
To evolve there must be a reason... Today only a handful of people are actually fighting and we don't even know what base/core they are using... Evolve sure sounds great but there must be a reason...
The classical training need not be transformed into something else, it simply needs to be taught correctly and by someone who is skilled.. That's the core, change the core and you change the art and...
