Shaolin 5 Tiger's Fist?

This is mentioned in the last issue of KFM in the tiger article. Anyone have a video if this?

My style has a form called 5 Tiger's Fist, so I was curious to compare them.

Wu Hu Quan,

The following video is about an old guy in ZhengZhou who teaches shaolin in the park for free. His style is not about looks but more technical. Anyway, the video says the styles he practices are called: Liu He Shou (Hands of 6 harmonies), Xiao Hong Quan (Torrential Flowing Fist), Qing Long Chu Hai Quan (The Azure dragon emerges from the ocean) and Wu Hu Quan (5 tigers). I expect the name 5 tiger fist either refers to a chinese legend, or it is the shortened name of 'Wu Hu Qian Yang Quan' Which means roughly 'just 5 tigers can kill an entire flock of sheep'. Or sometimes 5 tigers kill 1000 sheep. Amazingly thats a very common name in northern china, with all kinds of weapons and fists called this name. I even saw a Taiji staff form from chen village called wu hu qian yang gun.

There are a few performances on the videos, One of them may well be Wu Hu quan, but I couldn't tell you which one. Most is Liu He Shou.

I don't know 5 tiger fist but unless your style is very closely related to shaolin temple then i expect they are not similar forms. Many Kung fu styles tend to use and re use names a lot. There must be hundreds and hundreds of forms in china called liu he quan for example.

By the by, there is also a remote chance that Wu Hu quan is a someone over the years miss hearing the name Wu He quan, which means 5 harmonies, and is a large section of shaolin forms. I think they even appear in the shaolin encyclopedia and there is a VCD by LiuZhenHais son Liu Hui Zhen doing the form.

Here are some Videos of famous forms of 'Wu Hu Quan' , There are 3 different forms with different people performing. None of them are Shaolin Zhen Chuan, but some of them are 'Shaolin Men' which in this case either means distantly related or it just means a particularly external form.

On Shaolin Wu Hu Quan, I did get a chance to see it. Its not really like the forms above, maybe a little. No Tiger moves what so ever but it does contain a lot of Hook Hands, in a way like Zha Quan. It was very short, not that spectacular....Started with a wierd gong bu double hook hand, as if striking upwards with the back of the wrist. One hand in front, one behind, long arm. This form didn't really spike my interest. Hope that helps.
