Hey all
I'm quitting smoking again! I was researching TCM views of quitting smoking. The only thing I found was taking 'green tiger liver harmony' to help detox the system. Does anyone have any other advice? Much appreciated!:D

how about a thread about quitting wanking?
:p
Dude
I just replaced cigarettes w/ wanking. I'm talking wanking 20 times a day, at the busstop, after meals, just keep on wanking!
That can't be healthy..
some people eat a lot, some starts wanking apparently, after quitting the f@gs (cigs, I mean)
:D
Dude I was just joking, no wanking. I'm just eating my committ losenges and avoiding things that make me feel like smoking. I got a break from classes right now and I no if I went outside I'd feel like smoking, so I'm in here talking to you. I actually plan on eating healthier now that I've quit, lots of fruits, veggies, tea, and water to help detox the system. And of course lots of practice. The lozenges came with a card to put in your wallet that said to name your top reasons for quitting and mine was to perform some longer forms better. If I practice short forms, I can do it with power and speed, but that starts going away after about 40 or 50 movements! NOT ANYMORE!!!!:) :) :D :p
Good for you.:)
I bet you're smokin' already in the moment I'm writing this..:p:D
not yet you b@$tard
thanks for the support! I'm about to take the bus home, here in downtown theres a lot of smoking temptation, but once I get home it will be much easier!
How about the Shenmen point in the ear thats the classic point for giving up addictions.
didnt know about it RM, thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll lood it up!
How would u use that point? massage it, stick needles in it, whatever?
ShenMen point normally needs to be needled. A licensed acupuncturist who knows auricular (ear) acupuncture should be able to do this easily, as ShenMen is a very powerful ear point and is frequently used.
IIRC, shenmen is located so: take your index finger and place it just inside your ear, gently go bakwards [towards the back of your head]. It is located at the join from earlobe to uh..ear. On the cartilage. If you scratch it, it feels kind of funny.. :)
I believe that accupuncturistas use a piece of gauze-tape with a pinhead in it to keep it stimulated during the recovery period.
I may be wrong here, so corrections would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Zim,
You are correct. Ear-tacs (as they are commonly called) are used as prescription for patients to place on this point. They are used in the same way as thumb tacks are for paper on the wall... the tac is a square about 2.5mm wide with a very fine pointed needle in the center. The tac is placed on the ShenMen point and kept there for a certain duration of time. However, many acupuncturists also frown on using these tacs as they are very prone to causing ear infections.
Certainly.Anytime you feel like smoking, carefully stab yourself with a needle, that should keep it away.
On a more serious note, you MAY want to keep with you some objects that resemble cigarettes. Not saying that they have to but for some,it can be the case of having something to hold&"play with".Know what I mean?
Maybe that would make more damage than good.. u have to keep away totally from the cigs, not having a substitute.
Whats up guys
5th day without a cigarette!!! I never got past 3 days, or even to 3 days for that matter. I've been using nicotene losenges, doing lots of qigong and practice, and eating lots of high fiber, high antioxident foods, oh and of cource drinking lots of water! It can be done!:D
congrats.;)
Thank you Chen of no Chen!
I was attending a smoking cessation clinic recently and they said it's a good idea to reward yourself and set goals why not treat yourself after a week and so on?
regards well done and good luck
Peter
Booty: also called wu-chen.

Did your classes work? Are you not smoking? We need these testimonials around here to inspire others to quit! You can do it.
What up Wu Chen or Bu Chen?
Don't Bu me..:p
Wu would mean a negation, as far as i know, so Wu-chen would be a negation of me, = chen of no-chen;)
Ni shi bu Chen.
you are not chen!
I'm negating myself from the POV of Taoism/buddhism..;)..:p
I really should'nt bother myself.
Just joking buddy
How about this your Tai Chen (grand chen).;)
So now I'm great? I'm flattered..:o;)

I had my last ciggarette on May 18th, the doctor prescribed zyban which I'm still taking one a day, the group was good we swapped phone numbers and were able to ring up in times of stress.
The support group lasted for six weeks then we were left on our own we are planning to meet up soon to see haw everyone got on.
Out of 10 people starting, by the end of 6 weeks 6 were still not smoking

congratulations, I have a friend Zyban worked for, I personally don't want to take anything that changes brain chemistry. Hey you can use this as your support group, tell your friends
Chen
You can go off topic as much as you want Buddy;) :D
*whew*, I feel relieved..:p
as long as I don't offend the poor people who're trying to quit the f@gs, it should be fine.:)
No offence taken, you know once you start f@gs its hard to quit cause you love f@gs so much. 6th day w/out cigarette!:)
"personally don't want to take anything that changes brain chemistry. "
Whay. Then you better stop smoking soon or you´ll be in for a (possible) life-long ride in neural terms.

I know smoking is not good for the nervous system, but antidepressents change brain chemistry, and I dont think it changes for the better.
Its 7 days, hoorah!!!

I´m not sure what you mean.
Sure antidepressants will alter you...who talked about antidepressants? Better or not, that can hardly be said, for their favour I could say that in some cases they have actually managed to stimulate growth of the matter (brain)
The whole smoking thing is about neurochemistry, and should there be permanent, physical changes, they would far outweigh those...ugh...psychiatric drugs you mentioned,I´d think.I´m willing to bet that smoking of yours has altered the neurochemical concentrationS of yours.Talking about such, never forget about memory problems, cognitive decline and greatly increased stroke risk.
Gongratulations,now keep it up.

I agree. Just the fact that the brain has some of its oxygen supply cut off is bad. I still wouldn't use something like welbutrin, Zyban, and some of the other Antidepressents that they use for smoking, But thats just me.

Thanks, and all of it is the truth. ;) I'm gonna print that list up. My personal top reason for quitting is training! Did you ever smoke? Just curious.
