World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2001

Bringing Tai Chi and Qigong to the world.
by Bill Douglas

On Saturday April 7th, 10 am local time worldwide an historic event will unfold like a global tai chi movement. Beginning in cities across Australia mass tai chi exhibitions will take place in parks and public squares, and then spread across hundreds of cities in Northern and Southern Asia, time zone by time zone. Then Africa, Europe, North & South Americas will celebrate World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day 2001, with events finally ending on the beaches of Hawaii.

The goal is to inform hundreds of millions worldwide of the dramatic health benefits of Tai Chi & Qigong at a time when 70% of all illness is due to stress, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. This is why World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day (WTCQD) is celebrated on the Saturday of the week of United Nations World Health Day. In fact WTCQD organizers have received congratulatory letters from not only the UN World Health Organization, but also from governors of Connecticut, and South Carolina, and organizations worldwide.

Beyond the education issue World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day seeks to bring people together from all societies, cultures, and geo-political areas to work together for the purpose of global health and cooperation. Last year 1,300 people did Tai Chi together in downtown Los Angeles; 600 did so in downtown Tel Aviv Israel, 1,000 in Hong Kong, and on and on in hundreds of cities worldwide. T'ai Chi is the universal language of health, and its act brings millions together each day in an unspoken yet powerful way.

You or your Tai Chi or Qigong groups can get connected, get involved, or simply get more information on the global event or events in your area, by visiting www.worldtaichiday.org. By acting locally we change the world.

In the past we have been covered by CNN, Fox National News, Agence France Presse, China's Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, German Int'l Radio, and hundreds of media around the world. Amazon.com will be featuring Tai Chi & Qigong information this year to celebrate the world event, and we are encouraging local teachers worldwide to connect with their local libraries, and bookstores, and TV stations to air Tai Chi & Qigong related specials, or interviews with local teachers around this global health education event and how it is celebrated in their local area.

Thanks in advance for making World History With Us!
