by Chan Kai Leung

The Monkey King On Dec 7, 2000, the Tai Shing Pek Kwar International Kung Fu Federation was formed. A celebration dinner was held in Hong Kong. Over 500 guests and students participated and enjoyed a delicious Chinese dinner in a grand Chinese restaurant. All the schools in Hong Kong including top masters and students attended the dinner. Moreover, Masters like Lee Kwok Cheung, Wong Tat Mau, Leung Ting and Lau Ka Leung came to Hong Kong just to for the event. They were warmly welcome by Tai Shing Pek Kwar and their old friends in Hong Kong. It was undoubtedly the biggest kung fu event of the year.

Before the party began, as preparations were being made, flower baskets arrived every few minutes and were all arranged at the reception. Prime guests, movie stars and masters including the President of the Hong Kong Chinese Martial arts association - Lam Kin Ming, Chairman - Kong Pui Wai, along with many vice-chairmans and others like Wei Kei Shun, Kwan Hoi Sang, Lee Kwok Cheung, Ng Siu Wa and Ha Kwok Cheung took pictures with Grandmaster Chan and other Tai Shing Pek Kwar students. A crew from a Chinese TV station was reporting on the event too.

The host of the night was Chin Ka Lok, senior student and famous TV star. He left the show early to go to a charity show for the hospital. Anthony Wong also arrived and prepared for the performance with other students. Master Li Fei Piu's Lion dance team had been training so hard for a long time for this special occasion. The celebration began with the member's ceremony. All the staff of Tai Shing Pek Kwar International Kung Fu Federation took the oath led by Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung, swearing they will do their very best to promote genuine Tai Shing Pek Kwar kung fu unconditionally. Then, Grandmaster Chan give a speech about the goal of the Federation and thanked all the guests for coming to the ceremony. Then, we exchanged gifts with some of our guests to show our friendship, appreciation and respect to each to other.

Next, the Federation members and students took the "family" picture with Grandmaster Chan. Since there were so many students, it took a while to let everybody to have a chance to take the picture. The photo session with the guests followed.

The kung fu atmosphere began with great energy with the double fantastic lion dance. Our guest "pointed" the eyes for the lions for us, and then they become "alive." This dance gives good luck for Tai Shing Pek Kwar. It involved a great deal of teamwork and the crowd enjoyed the performance very much. Finally, the long expected kung fu performance began....

Master Chan Kai Leung opened the performance for Tai Shing Pek Kwar. Over 20 students performed for the school as well, including Chow Keung, Wong Chi Wai (4th champion), Anthony Wong, Le Fi Pui, Leung Fu Sun and Ho Kai Fai. To show their friendship and respect to Tai Shing Pek Kwar, nearly 20 grandmasters and masters from other schools including Lung Ying, Chow Li Fay, Wing Chun, Praying Mantis, Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi, Hung Kuen, Eagle Claw, Bak Mei and more performed on the stage, creating a lot of excitement.

A tasty Chinese dinner was served. The executive members of Tai Shing Pek Kwar adhered to the traditions, and visited every single table cheering with the guests with fine wine and tea.

The celebration dinner was finally finished, but it signaled a new beginning for Tai Shing Pek Kwar. The school quickly organized a charity show at the Dai Hang Welfare Organization on Jan 6, 2001, where the first Tai Shing Pek Kwar School of Sigong Kan Tai Hoi and Grandmaster Chan formed. It is a yearly event to pay respect to the community where the school was originally formed. Grandmaster Chan and his family also had a special dinner with the closed-door students two nights before he left Hong Kong to go to Canada. The students surprised Grandmaster Chan with a special wood plate with the gold Chinese word "Monkey King." They want him to use it at the new school in Vancouver, Canada. After arriving in Canada, Master Chan Kai Leung performed in a Chinese New Year celebration party in a big shopping mall in Vancouver. More than 200 pictures were taken for these events and are documented on the web site along with many others recent news.
